Thankfulness:
The week after Thanksgiving, we were admitted to Cincinnati Children's Hospital with our little Adeline. She had caught some sort of cold virus from somewhere (despite how careful we were), and her congestion was making it hard for her to breath, and therefore hard to eat. The pediatrician sent us directly to the hospital because her oxygen levels were very low. We spent basically the whole week there (M-F), with Addy on oxygen for 3 days, and all the while hooked up to monitors (note: she had an IV for a while, but when she ripped it out, the doctors decided she didn't really need it...McKinlay? Donahoe? Maybe both...).
My real thankfulness this holiday season, is that we are home again with our little girl. Despite how scary this experience was, we felt a great deal of peace and confidence, and knew that we were all in the Lord's hands.
Now for Thanksgiving (late, I know). They say that eating dessert first makes you live longer, so...
Alli's famous chocolate pecan pie. Delicious! We decided to just do Thanksgiving dinner ourselves at home this year, which makes it the first Thanksgiving dinner that we prepared ourselves. It was an adventure, but very fun and tasty.
Here's our spread:

Turkey, rolls, candied sweet potatoes with marshmallows, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, asparagus, hollandaise sauce, and cranberry sauce. And (almost) all of it homemade! It was good. Here's a close up:
I know, it's silly, but when no one else is here to see how good it is, you have to share, right? The turkey was a little bit of an experiment, and it took a couple of tries to get right. Here was try one:
Cute, but not so edible. Here was try 2. It was a recipe that I thought sounded kind of good from the Food Network. I would recommend it. It wasn't too hard, and it really tasted quite good:
Anywho, the best part about Thanksgiving, was of course the fact that I had a long weekend that I got to spend with my girls. Alli and Addy made for a great weekend combo!

I'm sorry little Addy ended up in the hospital. Ka'iwa went in for a routine tonsilectomy and was supposed to be out 23 hours later. NOT SO. We spent 4 days in the hospital. blech! I'm glad you had a great Thanksgiving though. Kids do really make you look at Thankfulness differently. Good thing you didn't eat your first attempt at your turkey! Way too cute to eat! But then sometimes I just want to gobble up those little toes. She is beautiful. I'm glad she takes after her mom ;)
that is the cutest little turkey i have ever seen! i look at her and just see you, b, as a baby. those mckinlay genes are pretty strong!
i'm glad you guys are home now and that all is well! can't wait to see you in a few weeks!!
Not only does this make me even more excited (if possible?!) to see you three in a few hours, but I am ecstatic that you are in charge of Christmas Eve dinner...my mouth is already watering! Are we having dessert first? Love ya!
